Day 2: Gutters & Drainage – Direct Water Away From Your Home
Our Spring Home Maintenance Series continues by discussing the importance of gutters and drainage and directing water away from you home.
Spring showers are great for your lawn and landscaping—but only if your home’s drainage system is working properly. Gutters and downspouts play a critical role in directing water away from your roof, siding, and foundation.
When gutters become clogged with leaves, twigs, or debris, water can overflow and lead to foundation issues, wood rot, or basement moisture problems.
Checklist
• Clean debris from gutters
• Ensure downspouts extend at least 4–6 feet away from the home
• Check for sagging gutters
• Look for signs of water pooling near the foundation
• Confirm splash blocks are properly positioned
